The Wörlitz domain is a listed farm complex in Wörlitz in Saxony-Anhalt . It is also referred to as the economy .

It is located east of the Wörlitz city center at the address Erdmannsdorffstraße 204. In the local monument register , it is entered as an official court under registration number 094 40032.

Architecture and history

The buildings of the large four-sided courtyard were built between 1783 and 1787 according to plans by Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff . A cube-shaped administrator's house with a belvedere was created . As a model in serving Italy situated Villa Emo of the Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio . After fires in 1848 and 1866, the management building was expanded on two sides in the 19th century. The entrance, designed with a column portico, is on the east side of the house. There are open stairs on both the east and west sides . There is a four-flight staircase inside the building. In addition, the doors in the house have been preserved in their original condition.

The courtyard buildings are made of bricks and structured by means of blind arches and struts made of sandstone . Originally there were two gable-facing plastered gables with blind arches, of which only the western one has survived.

The domain was sponsored by Prince Franz as a model farm. The other courtyards Münsterberg , Rotehof and Grünehof bei Riesigk and, for a time, the Wörlitz brewery were also managed from the farm . The agricultural expert Georg Friedrich von Raumer worked in the domain . The model farm achieved great economic success and was an important part of the princely economic policy.

In the period after 1945 some of the stables belonging to the farm were demolished and some were converted into living spaces. In 1952, the municipal kindergarten was set up in the administration building, which was operated until 2015.
