Architecture and history

Its stone parapets are separated from each other by low half-columns. The fountain is closed at the top by a wrought-iron bow crown . This degree was applied in 1933, on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Merseburg, on June 21st.

The cathedral fountain served as a water supply. Until 1883, the pupils of the neighboring cathedral high school fetched the drinking water for the school in 20-liter jugs . Even today the well has water; the water level is about two meters.

In the local register of monuments , the fountain is listed as a monument under registration number 094 20134 .
