The Danish national men's fistball team is the selection of Danish fistball players chosen by the coaches . They represent their country on an international level at events of the European Fistball Association and the International Fistball Association .

history

Fistball enjoyed a high status in the 1950s and was practiced actively in almost every village and in the sports clubs of the German minority. At the end of the 1960s handball was on the rise in North Schleswig and increasingly replaced fistball from clubs. At that time it was neglected to take care of the youth work. So there was an intermittent drought with regard to fistball activities. Although some clubs took part sporadically in tournaments in Schleswig-Holstein, the level of activity was not nearly at the same level as in the post-war years. In May 1987 the north Schleswig fistball sport experienced a renaissance. Among other things, Günter Haagensen from Tondern and individual German associations were involved in this resuscitation initiative, which was supported by associations from North Friesland / Germany. From 1988, for the first time in a long time, North Schleswig championships and tournaments could be held. It also took part in the league in Schleswig-Holstein from 1988 to 2007. The development of fistball in Denmark was often supported and promoted by individuals from North Schleswig and Germany. This also included the trainer Uwe Jörck and the editor of the fistball magazine “Faustball-Sport” Heino Kreye. He was particularly involved in encouraging the German North Schleswig-Holstein to take part in the 1990 World Cup in Austria for Denmark. This was followed by the World Cup with North Schleswig-Danish participation in 1992, 1995, 1999, 2003 and for the last time in 2007. In the last phase, the German coach Olaf Neuenfeld played a key role in increasing the quality of the team. But like the end of the 60s, it was more or less over after 2007. Again the youth work was missing.

Team North Schleswig

The current Danish fistball association evolved from the North Schleswig team. In 2016 there was a pure football selection from the German minority in Denmark, which is developing into a success story. In addition to football and handball, the sport of fistball is to be promoted in North Schleswig - and the world championships in Switzerland will be taken part in 2019 at the latest.

International success

The Danish fistball was represented in international competitions from 1990 to 2007. The greatest success was the qualification and participation in the World Games 2005 in Germany.

World championships

In 1990 a Danish fistball selection took part in world championships for the first time. This was followed by the World Championships with North Schleswig-Danish participation in 1992, 1995, 1999, 2003 and for the last time in 2007.
