Domenico Gilardoni

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Domenico Gilardoni (* 1798 in Naples , † 1831 in Naples) was a Neapolitan librettist . He wrote numerous libretti for operas by Gaetano Donizetti , Vincenzo Bellini and Giovanni Pacini, which were premiered at various theaters in Naples . The quality of Gilardoni's texts is controversial; critics consider them to be an example of the "devastating trite and bad taste of many opera texts from the first half of the 19th century".
