Dominggus Mandacan (born December 16, 1959 in Manokwari ) is an Indonesian politician of the national democratic party Nasdem . He is from the West Papuan tribe of the Arfak .

In 2012 he ran for election as governor of Papua Barat Province (West Papua), but lost the election. He ran again in 2017 and won the election. Dominggus Mandacan has been governor of Papua Barat since May 12, 2017, succeeding Eko Subowo . He was supported in his election by the Democratic Party of the Struggle of Indonesia (PDI-P) in the person of the Mayor of Surabaya Tri Rismaharini , the Nasdem party and the Partai Amanat Nasional (PAN). Before that, Dominggus Mandacan was regent of the Manokwari administrative district from 2000 to 2010 and regent of the mountainous region of Pegunungan Arfak from 2010 to 2013 . Since May 9, 2018, he has also been chairman of the Nasdem party in Papua Barat.

Awards

A betel palm species newly discovered by Charlie D. Heatubun on the Vogelkop Peninsula was named after him in 2008: Areca mandacanii .
