Domingo Matheu Chicola (born August 4, 1765 in Barcelona , † March 28, 1831 in Buenos Aires ) was a Spanish-Argentinian businessman and politician. From August 26, 1811 to September 23, 1811 he was the second president of the Junta Grande, the first independent government of Argentina, which was replaced by the First Triumvirate shortly after the resignation of Cornelio Saavedras .

Life

Matheu Chicola studied nautical science in Spain and graduated as a pilot. Together with his brother Miguel he received a trade permit for the American colonies and finally, after traveling a lot, settled in Buenos Aires in 1793. After a while, his local shop was one of the largest in town at the time. In the regiment of Miñones he took part in the suppression of the British invasion of the Rio de la Plata. After Cisneros was deposed , Matheu Chicola became the junta's spokesman and later, as the successor to Cornelio Saavedra , also its president. After serving as president, he was appointed director of weapons and uniforms. In 1817 he retired from politics and looked after his business until his death in 1831.
