Dominik W. Rettinger (also: Wieczorkowski-Rettinger , Rettinger-Wieczorkowski , born November 11, 1953 in Stettin , People's Republic of Poland ) is a Polish screenwriter , film director and novelist .

Life

Rettinger studied cultural studies at the University of Breslau , and in 1976 he passed the exam. In 1981 he graduated from the State University of Film, Television and Theater Łódź with a degree in film. From 1988 to 1990 he was visiting professor at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art and then returned to Poland.

Movies

Rettinger initially worked on advertising films. In 1977 he worked for the first time as assistant director for the film "Akcja pod Arsenałem" ( The Action under the Arsenal ) about the liberation of Polish resistance fighters from the custody of the Gestapo in March 1943 by a group of boy scouts who fought in the ranks of the underground army (AK) . For his first film as a director "Gra w ślepca" ( Blind Play , 1985) about a young person looking for orientation in the foreign city, for which he also wrote the script, he received the Koszalin Film Festival award for the best debut.

He wrote scripts for several TV series, including most of the episodes of the Warsaw government-run series "Ekipa" ( The Team , 2007) directed by Agnieszka Holland, and also played a supporting role himself.

He also wrote the text for the TV play "Karski" (2014) about the Polish underground fighter Jan Karski . In the same year he wrote the screenplay for the film "Kamienie na szaniec" ( Stones on the Hill ) by Robert Gliński about two young men and a young woman who decided at the beginning of the Second World War to join the resistance against the German occupiers .

In 2008 the Teatr Scena Stu in Krakow performed its satire "Psycho-Tera-Polityka" on professional politicians. For this he received the first prize of the 1st All-Polish Comedy Bankruptcy.

Novels

In 2013 Rettinger published his first book, the fantasy novel “Jonatan - Czas Przepowiedni” (Jonathan - Time of Prophecy). In the same year his science fiction novel "Brainman" was published. His first detective novel, "Elita", followed in 2014 and is set in the nouveau riche area of ​​the Warsaw villa suburb of Konstancin . In the same year he succeeded with “Klasa” ( The Class ), a detective novel against the background of a political conflict over the mining of titanium deposits in a nature reserve in Masuria , a work that attracted widespread attention in Poland and was also translated into German . The main plot of its sequel under the title “Sokół” ( Falcon ) with the same protagonist from Poland's military defense is set in Afghanistan .

The novel “Wiara i tron” ( Faith and Throne ), published in 2016, takes place in the 10th century, with Saint Adalbert as the main character . The novel “Talizmany” ( The Talismans , 2017) about a treasure hunt between the present and the Renaissance even caught the attention of the tabloid press. “ Fact ”, the country's highest-circulation newspaper, compared the novel with the works of Dan Brown .

Rettinger's novels are characterized by quick changes of scene and short and precise dialogues like in a script for a feature film.
