Dominic Savio
The holy Dominic Savio also Domenico Savio (* 2. April 1842 at Riva in Chieri (Northern Italy ); † 9. March 1857 in Mondonio d ' Asti ) was a pupil of Don Bosco .
Life
The son of a blacksmith came to Don Bosco's school in Turin at the age of 12 and became his favorite student. He became an aspirant for the priesthood, charismatically gifted and committed helper of Don Bosco in his educational and youth pastoral work among the poor youth of Turin and Piedmont . He founded a group dedicated to the apostolate among his classmates and became a courageous “peacemaker” who always tried to settle disputes. His motto was “ La morte, ma non peccati ” (German: “Death, but not sin”).
He died of pulmonary tuberculosis at the age of 14 .

In 1859, Don Bosco wrote the biography of his favorite pupil, who died early, in which he portrayed him as an ideal of an exemplary pupil and a committed young Christian. Since then, this book has had many editions and has been translated into almost all modern languages as part of the worldwide Don Bosco Youth Organization.
Dominic Savio was beatified on May 3, 1950 and canonized on June 12, 1954. The comment on the canonization reads: "Already in this life filled with abundant gifts of grace, he left this earth early to receive the reward for his filial love for God with the intercession of the Queen of Heaven", declared Pope Pius XII. at the canonization in 1954.
His relics rest in the Basilica of Mary Help of Valdocco (Turin).
He is the patron saint of the Catholic youth group, the Catholic youth, the altar boys , the boys' choir and the patron saint of the Pueri Cantores . He is also venerated as an advocate by expectant mothers. Since 1950 groups of the "Friends of Dominikus Savio" have been formed in numerous countries.
His feast day is March 9th, the Don Bosco family celebrates the feast of St. Dominic Savio on May 6th.
