Dominique-Marie Gauchet (born August 14, 1853 in Vains , † February 4, 1931 there ) was a French admiral .

Gauchet was born in Vains on August 14, 1853 and joined the French Navy in 1879 . In 1885 he was promoted to lieutenant and was stationed in the French-West African Senegal . He later served as a ship commander in the Far East . In 1910 he was promoted to Rear Admiral and in 1914 to Vice Admiral. When the First World War broke out , he worked in the Administration and Supply Department.

After Admiral Auguste Boué de Lapeyrère was retired, Gauchet received in October 1915, the command of the French Dardanelles - Squadron . After Admiral Louis Dartig du Fournet had to resign because of his failed landing in Athens in December 1916 ( vêpres grecques ), Gauchet became the commander of the French Mediterranean Fleet . In this role he behaved very passively and waited for a meeting with the Austrian fleet , which never happened.

Gauchet retired in 1919 and died on February 4, 1931 in his place of birth.
