from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Do not Starve (dt .: starving not ) is an indie open world - action-adventure - Sandbox - computer game , which by the Canadian development studio Klei Entertainment has been developed and published. It appeared on April 23, 2013 as a digital release for various platforms. For iOS , the release took place later, on July 9, 2015. In April 2018, a version of the game for the Nintendo Switch was also released.

Gameplay

The player takes on the role of one of several characters who wakes up at the beginning of the game in a randomly generated wilderness, which can be changed in the game menu at the beginning. There he is greeted by Maxwell, the puppeteer. The aim of the game is to survive for as long as possible by maintaining satiety, mental health and vital energy. For this purpose, as in other representatives of the genre, resources can be extracted, food collected and grown, objects made and opponents fought. Lack of food, darkness and various opponents put the player to the test.

While sandbox mode is running, it is possible to switch to adventure mode . In this, the player starts in a new world, but has to solve various tasks in order to reach the next section of the game. At the end of Adventure mode, the player meets Maxwell again and takes his place.

If the player dies and has not previously activated a respawn point (so-called Touchstone ) or has not put on an amulet, the player cannot return to the game world ( respawn ) and the game is over. Do not Starve is based on the so-called Permadeath in which a store of progress is only possible when leaving the game save. New characters are unlocked through earned points that you get through survival .

Each character has a different ability that can be very helpful during the course of the game, such as doing more damage, dealing with fire, or ingesting rotten food without damage. The world is more like a comic book and has something dark about it.

Multiplayer

The release of Do not Starve the game was playable only in single player. On April 21, 2016, after a long early access phase, the independent multiplayer expansion Don't Starve Together was released . With her it became possible to play the game in cooperative multiplayer.

“'Don't Starve' is an archaic survival trip that appeals to the human primal instincts that activate our innate instinct for self-preservation. [...] A game from which you can learn a lot. "

“Merciless fight against hunger and monsters in Tim Burton 's horror world. The eco & building system is cool, the need to repeat is annoying. "
