Don't Kill My Vibe is the title of a song by the Norwegian singer Sigrid . It was released in February 2017. An EP of the same name with four songs followed in May .

To the song

The main theme of the song is the feeling of not being respected as a person. Sigrid commented on the genesis of the song in several interviews:

“I was in my first writing session with Martin Sjølie. We had two days together and the first hour he asked me what I'd been thinking about, just to get to know me. I told him about a previous songwriting session that was pretty difficult. [...] Some people that made me feel very small, like my opinion wasn't important. [...] It's quite difficult when you're going to write a song with someone else, and when you're writing a song it's about chemistry. I find it quite hard to write when you feel like it'd almost be better if you weren't in the room. The thing that was discouraging the most was the comments. I don't know if it was my gender or my age or what it was, but I was made to feel that my opinion wasn't as important. I got pissed off at myself for not speaking up in that session, [...] just because I was afraid of overreacting. So it felt terrific to finally get it all out in this tune. "

“I was in my first songwriting session with Martin Sjølie. We spent two days together and at first he asked me what I was thinking just to get to know me. I told him about a previous session that was very difficult. There were people who made me feel that my opinion was worthless. It's generally difficult to write songs with other people, and it's mostly about a certain chemistry that has to be right. I find it pretty hard when you are made to feel like it would be better if you weren't in the room at all. What discouraged me the most were the comments - I don't know if it was my age or because I'm a woman, but I felt like my opinion didn't matter. I was very upset with myself that I didn't fight back because I was afraid to overreact. So it felt great to bring it all up in Don't Kill My Vibe . "

With Don't Kill My Vibe , a 3-minute pop song was created within the two days, which follows the classic form stanza-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus. The text is written in English, freely translated the title "Don't ruin my mood" means:

"You speak to me like I'm a child.
Try to hold it down, I know the answer.
I can't shake it off and you feel threatened by me.
[...]
You think you're so important to me, don't you?
But I wanted you to know that you don't belong here. "

- Lyrics, original excerpt

“You talk to me like I am a child.
I try to hold it back but I know the answer.
I can't get rid of the feeling that you feel threatened by me.
[...]
You think you are so important to me, don't you?
But you should know that you don't really belong here. "
