The Don CeSar is a luxury hotel on Saint Petersburg Beach in Pinellas County , Florida . The hotel belongs to the Loews Group . The pink building is a landmark of the place.
Furnishing
It has 277 hotel rooms, including 40 suites, two swimming pools and three restaurants. In 2008, more than 10,000 square meters was Spa area Spa Oceana opened.
Surname
The hotel, at that time the name Don Ce-Sar was spelled with a hyphen, was named after the hero Don Ce-Sar DeBazan in Vincent Wallace's opera Maritana. Because of its pink color, it was also known as the Pink Lady and the Pink Palace .
history
In 1924 Thomas Rowe bought what is now St. Pete Beach , and in 1925 construction began on the luxury hotel. The architect was Henry H. Dupont. Three times more than planned was invested and the pompous hotel was inaugurated in 1928. The hotel quickly developed as a focal point for wealthy society and celebrities. From 1942, during the Second World War, the hotel functioned as a hospital and later, from 1944, as a health resort of the Air Force . In 1973 the hotel was reopened after an expensive renovation by the new owner, William Bowman Jr.
Special
- Today around 400 weddings are celebrated in Don CeSar every year.
- Many celebrities stayed here, including a. F. Scott Fitzgerald , Clarence Darrow , Al Capone , Lou Gehrig , Franklin D. Roosevelt, and many other American presidents . During the Great Depression , the New York Yankees set up their training camp at the Don CeSar Hotel for three years.

Restaurants
- Maritana Grill - The guests sit in the Maritana Grill surrounded by a 5,700 liter aquarium in which they can observe fish native to Florida. The four-star restaurant was voted one of the top 100 restaurants in Florida by Epicurean Rendezvous magazine and one of the top 10 seafood restaurants in the USA by the Gayot Guide . The Maritana Grill also received the 2009 Golden Spoon Award from Florida Trend Magazine .
