Ruth Schmidt-Niemack

Ruth Schmidt-Niemack (born October 24, 1927 in Hanover ; † February 20, 2011 in Marquartstein ) was a German clerk and local politician for the CDU . From 1989 to 1994 she was mayor of the city of Bonn .

Life

Ruth Schmidt-Niemack studied in Hannover, Freiburg and Munich Business Administration . In 1957 she came to Bonn, joined the CDU in 1966 and was involved in local politics. From 1979 she was a member of the Bonn city council and was the first woman to be mayor from 1989 to 1994. From 1990 to 1994 she was also a member of the main committee of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions.

Schmidt-Niemack was a member of the Women's Union, fought for the compatibility of work and family, was among other things local chairman of the CDU Mehlem , chairwoman of the women's union Bad Godesberg , chairwoman of the international economic commission of the European Women's Union as well as city district and district board member of the Bonn CDU .

Schmidt-Niemack was buried in the Engesohde city cemetery in Hanover .
