Gerda Sofia Antti Ljungqvist (born August 20, 1929 in Övertorneå ) is a Swedish writer .

Life

Antti grew up with four siblings in norrbottnischen on Övertorneå. She made her debut in 1961 with the collection of poems Här och nu (German: here and now ). Since then she has published several essays , causeries , short stories and novels . Her works deal realistically with the life of the rural population of that time. Using simple and informal language, she describes and problematizes conflicts within and outside of the family, between town and country, new and old. The focus is also on depictions of people on the fringes of society. Antti, known for her humor and satire , is one of the most widely read Swedish writers. She is placed in a row with the Swedish writers Anna Maria Lenngren , Fredrika Bremer and Moa Martinson . These three writers also emphasize the unjustifiably suppressed heroic character of women.

Antti was also involved as a local politician for the Center Party and was a lay judge in the district court. She is chair of the ethical council of the Immigration Service ( Migrationsverket ). Antti sparked a national debate with a newspaper article in the Östgöta Correspondents on December 23, 2009, in which she questioned the expansion of the council by an imam and the demand of Muslim immigrants for a change in Swedish society as inappropriate.

She currently lives in Stockholm and Luleå .
