Don Morrow (born September 10, 1949 in Pūpūkea , Hawaii , USA ) is a retired American wrestler who became known as Don Muraco . Morrow usually embodied the imagined villain in his ring role. His greatest successes were the two-time receipt of the WWF Intercontinental Champion title , as well as the original NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling Champion title. Morrow has been a member of the WWE Hall of Fame since 2004 .

Career

After a period as a successful amateur wrestler , Morrow began his career in 1970. He initially worked for the American Wrestling Association , National Wrestling Alliance , NWA All-Star Wrestling, Georgia Championship Wrestling, Jim Crockett Promotions and Championship Wrestling from Florida. In the latter, Don Morrow was best known for his feud with Barry Windham .

In 1980 Morrow began in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF for short, now WWE), where he was allowed to celebrate the greatest successes of his career. Between June 20, 1981 and February 11, 1984, he held the WWE Intercontinental Championship twice , a total of almost 18 months. On October 17, 1983, Morrow had to defend his title against Jimmy Snuka in a steel cage match. He won the match, but had to take a "Superfly Splash" executed by Snuka from the roof of the cage. The then wrestling fans and today's superstars Mick Foley and Thomas Laughlin took this match as inspiration for their later wrestling careers.

After that, according to the storyline, Morrow had feuds against Pedro Morales , Bob Backlund, and Rocky Johnson . He now embodied an arrogant Heel who performed the Piledriver as a finisher. During his career, Morrow has had several managers who have appeared alongside him, including The Grand Wizard, Captain Lou Albano, Mr. Fuji and Billy Graham . Together with Fuji he formed two soap operas , the Fuji Vice (parody of Miami Vice ) and Fuji General Hospital (parody of General Hospital ). 1987 was made Morrow to Facebook after pleading with his Tag Team Partner, Bob Orton odds had.

In 1988, Morrow was fired from the WWF. As a result, he made appearances in the leagues Stampede Wrestling (here he won the North American Heavyweight title), AWA and UWF, where he feuded the young Mick Foley.

In the early 1990s Morrow appeared for the promotion NWA Tri-State Wrestling and was one of the first wrestlers who were allowed to hold the ECW Heavyweight Title in the resulting NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling League . Morrow now often fought as a heel, leading feuds against Ric Flair , Jake Roberts , Roddy Piper and Randy Savage . He was the first wrestler to become known as "The Rock", which originally served only as his nickname and name for his new finishing maneuver, the Reverse Piledriver (later Tombstone Piledriver).

After a temporary retirement from his wrestling career, Don Morrow made his comeback in Hawaii. In 2003 he founded the wrestling association Hawai'i Championship Wrestling together with local TV producer Linda Bade. In 2004 he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by Mick Foley .
