Donald Cameron Watt

Donald Cameron Watt (born May 17, 1928 in Rugby , Warwickshire , † October 30, 2014 ) was a British historian.

Life

Watson went on a scholarship to Oriel College , Oxford in 1948 , where the historian Christopher Seton-Watson was one of his teachers.

1951–54 he worked in the Foreign Office. 1954–1966 he was a lecturer in history at the London School of Economics and Political Science . In 1981 he became a full professor there.

He was Professor of International History from 1972 to 1981 and Stevenson Professor of International History from 1982 to 1993 at the University of London. In 1990 he was elected a member ( Fellow ) of the British Academy .

For his book How War Came he was awarded the Wolfson History Prize in 1989. Watt died on October 30, 2014 at the age of 86.
