Donald year out
Donald "Don" Jahraus (born July 13, 1892 in Salt Lake City , Utah , † April 3, 1963 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American special effects artist who won the Oscar in the category Best Visual for thirty seconds over Tokyo in 1945 Effects received.
Life
In the first feature films he worked on, such as Danger Lights , Flying Down to Rio and The Wizard of Oz , he was responsible for the miniatures. At Der Werkpilot in 1938 he first worked as a special effects assistant. In 1942 he was finally responsible for the special effects at Stand by for Action . For this film he was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects together with A. Arnold Gillespie and Michael Steinore .
The following year he finally received the award for the feature film Thirty Seconds About Tokyo together with A. Arnold Gillespie , Warren Newcombe and Douglas Shearer . He received his third nomination for an Oscar in 1946 for the war film by director John Ford , Speed Boats off Bataan . The last feature film he worked on was Gaby in 1956 .
