Donna Martell (* 24. December 1927 in Los Angeles , California as Irene Palma de Maria ) is an American actress .

Life

Donna Martell was born Irene Palma de Maria in Los Angeles on December 24, 1927. Her family is of Italian origin. She was discovered at the age of 17 but turned down an acting career under contract with Republic Pictures because of concerns about her age. In 1947, the now 20-year-old began her career in the film business in the same studio that she had contacted three years earlier. Martell had her first film role in Robin Hood of Monterey that same year . After another supporting role in Apache Rose , she signed a contract with Universal Studios . However, she also starred in films by other production companies. In her early years Martell was mainly seen in extras and minor supporting roles, most of which were not mentioned in the credits. This includes appearances in Letters From Beyond 1947 and Secret Behind the Door from 1948.

In 1950 she was seen in a small role in the adventure film Kim - Secret Service in India . The following year Martell starred in another adventure film, Bomba, the lord of the elephants . In 1953 she also took on the lead role in the science fiction film Project Moonbase . Martell's best-known roles include the Search in All Glory on Earth from 1955. In the 1960s, her acting career focused on appearances in television series, including two episodes of 77 Sunset Strip in 1961 . In 1963 Martell officially ended her career as an actress, but was seen again in a small role in the television film Grace Kelly in 1983 . In the 2017 comedy The Extra , which was filmed in 2014 , she played herself in a guest role alongside other stars of Hollywood's golden era such as Carla Laemmle and Terry Moore .

In 2002 Martell was recognized at the Golden Boot Awards for her performance in westerns , several of which she had appeared in her career. From 1953 until his death in 1996, she was married to the former baseball player Gene Edgar Corso. The couple has three children.
