The Thunder Alley is on the 1st Viennese district of Inner City . It was named in 1862 after the sculptor Georg Raphael Donner , whose famous fountain is in the immediate vicinity on the Neuer Markt .

history

The little alley already existed in the 15th century. It is occupied in 1420 and 1437 as a street when you walk into Kernerstraße . It was later named after the cellar of the citizens' hospital, which was documented until 1675 and which was located in the area of today's parcels on Donnergasse 2, Neuer Markt 3 and Kärntner Straße 12. In 1770 we find the name Spitlgässel and in 1821 and 1848 the name Spitalgasse . In 1862 it was officially defined as Donnergasse.

Location and characteristics

The very short Donnergasse forms the connection between Kärntner Straße and the Neuer Markt. It is a pedestrian zone and connected to that of Kärntner Straße. There is a high number of pedestrians, as the pedestrian zone on Kärntner Straße is one of the most popular places in Vienna's inner city. Accordingly, the Donnergasse is completely lined with shops.

The construction of Donnergasse consists of a historic building and a hotel from the post-war period.
