Donskiye Islands

The Donskiye Islands ( English ; Russian Острова Донские Ostrowa Donskije , German ' Don islands' ; Norwegian Mulvikholmane 'Maulbuchtinseln' ) are a group of islands off the Ingrid-Christensen coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . They are located in front of the Breidnes Peninsula in the Vestfold Mountains .

Norwegian cartographers mapped them in 1946 using aerial photographs of the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . Further aerial photographs were taken during the US-American Operation Highjump (1946-1947), during a Soviet Antarctic expedition in 1956 and during the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions in 1957 and 1958. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia transferred the Russian name to in 1973 a partial translation into English.
