The Donzère-Mondragon cable-stayed bridge ( French : Pont de Donzère-Mondragon or Pont de Pierrelatte ) is a road bridge over the Canal de Donzère-Mondragon on the Rhône , which connects Pierrelatte and La Garde-Adhémar on the D 356 .
It was designed by Albert Caquot and built between 1951 and 1952 in connection with the construction of the Canal de Donzère-Mondragon. The single-lane cable - stayed bridge is 6.7 m wide and 165 m long. Its main opening has a span of 81 m. Its two pylons consist of rectangular stems made of reinforced concrete , which are connected to one another at the top by a crossbar, this crossbar being supported by a Gothic-looking pointed arch. 3 by 3 ropes are stretched over the crossbars on both sides of the bridge and attached to the sides of the deck girder. The roadway girder consists of two concrete troughs with an asphalt roadway separated by a joint in the middle of the bridge.
Today, the use of the bridge is limited to vehicles up to 17 t, which must also keep a distance of 50 m.
The bridge was the first modern cable-stayed bridge, but, possibly because of its small size and remote location, had little influence on the further development of the cable-stayed bridges.
