Game overview

Course of the game

The game is played over several rounds, in which the marines and the invader take turns and can perform the following actions:

  • Move
  • shoot
  • Pick up objects
  • Passing on the object
  • Open / close doors
  • Play Invader Card (Invader Only)

The marines can collect weapons, ammunition, medi-packs and keys for doors as items to use for battles and puzzles. As soon as an unknown area is entered, the overlord briefly interrupts the game, sets up the new visible rooms, monsters and objects using the scenario, reads from the scenario book and also plays the newly added demons on his turn. Using the invader cards, the overlord player can carry out further events or make new additional monsters appear.

Playing

The game ends with a victory for the Marines as soon as they have found the exit or as soon as the invaders kill the Marines six times. If the Marines win, they can play the next scenario, otherwise they have to repeat it.

extension

An expansion for the game called Doom: Expansion was released in 2005 .

Doom - The board game was developed by the American game authors Kevin Wilson and Christian T. Petersen on the basis of the computer and video console game Doom from 1993 and was released in 2004 Fantasy Flight Games . The attempt was made to transfer the concept of the first person shooter to the board game.

The game material with 66 miniatures known from computer games and numerous playing cards and markers is very extensive for a board game. The thematic implementation of the computer game is considered very successful. With the dynamic playing field structure through the different scenarios, Doom plays just like the computer game in different campaigns. A team match variant is also playable, in which, as in a computer game, two teams compete against each other without an overlord. The game and the expansion are no longer in production. A new edition with a medieval theme was released with the Descent series.

In 2017 a new edition appeared that changed both the design and the game mechanics. The game should live up to the spirit of the 2016 reissue of the computer game version of Doom (2016) .

The computer game

Doom 3 is the third computer game in the Doom series and was released in the USA on August 3, 2004. As a result of the continued success of id Software's previous games , it became a highly anticipated game. The publisher Activision started the largest delivery in the history of Activision Germany on the date of publication. The PC version of Doom 3 and the Xbox version received a Metascore of 87 and 88 out of 100 points, respectively.
