Dorena is a settlement that, as an unincorporated community, does not belong to any community. Dorena is located in Mississippi County in the southeast of the US -amerikanischen state of Missouri . It is located at the intersection of Missouri State Route 77 with Missouri State Route 102 about 13 miles southeast of the city of East Prairie .
The place was founded in 1899 and is named after the slang expression Doreen for money. Dorena gained supra-regional importance through the ferry across the Mississippi to Hickman in the neighboring state of Kentucky . It is also the only ferry between Missouri and Kentucky.
