Village (Schänis)

Dorf is a scattered settlement between the village center of the political community Schänis and Rufi in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen . A first documentary mention comes from the year 1486. ​​Today the area counts around 200 inhabitants and has its own sub-administration resp. Local municipality to which responsibility for the Alps , forests and the Riet is transferred. It is the second largest of its kind within Schänis and also includes around 160 hectares of mountain forest, Alp Bätruns and Alp Stöck.

The core of the settlement lies on the eastern edge of the Linth plain and is served by the Ziegelbrücke - Schänis - Kaltbrunn - Uznach postbus line. The most important branches of industry are agriculture and small businesses.
