The Evangelical Lutheran village church Altkirchen is in Altkirchen in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .

history

In the 12th century there was a chapel on the site of the current village church . It has received many extensions since 1521. The previous church burned down due to a lightning strike in 1869. This new village church was built in the neo-Romanesque style from 1870 to 1871 . Byzantine building materials and red sandstone from the Weida area were used.

The church has the largest village organ in the Altenburger Land. The organ, built in 1871 by Christoph Opitz from Dobra , was repaired from 2010 to 2012. The tin pipes that had been missing since the First World War were reconstructed.
