history

The origin was a pilgrimage church from the 11th / 12th. Century with a hall length of 14 meters, located on the highest point of an old street from west to east. Around 1450 the village fell into desolation and the church fell into disrepair. The village was repopulated in 1539 and the church was rebuilt afterwards. A major fire in 1788 also destroyed the church . In 1897/98 the north wall of the ruin was removed. A school was built with the stones. A culture house was later set up on this site.

The ruin today

The choir and the adjoining tower have been preserved from the church today . The interior is closed off by a barrel vault , which is said to be the oldest barrel vault in Thuringia. The still standing walls are eight meters high.

Open-air services are held here in summer .
