history

The place is first mentioned in 1389 as part of the Altenberga rule . After retaliation, the place was at times completely uninhabitable and lay desolate . It was not until the 16th century that the place was rebuilt on the initiative of a Mr. von Weißbach auf Altenberga. When Altenbergas passed to the Principality of Saxony-Altenburg , Dürrengleina also came to Saxony-Altenburg. Even today the place is parish to Altendorf . After the duchies were dissolved, the place came to the district of Jena-Stadtroda in the state of Thuringia.

In earlier centuries the place was simply called “Gleina” and was probably only given the addition “Dürren-” at the end of the 18th century for postal reasons. As a result, the “von Dürrengleina” family mentioned in the 14th century cannot be related to this place.

The church ruins are one of the oldest structures in the region.
