history

Trinitatis Church in Rodias

The place was first mentioned on December 28, 1388 as "Rodegast". A manor was rebuilt by 1529 . In 1557 there was talk of the "desolate village of Rodegast".

In 1717 the small Trinitatis church was built by Anton Ludwig von Schwartzenfels at his own expense. In 1722 the bell was cast. In 1844, the furnishings were embellished as part of a thorough renovation. During the GDR era, the church began to fall into disrepair: the roof was damaged, the clay ceiling partially collapsed. One could "see the sky from inside the church". The windows were dilapidated. In 1992 the roof was repaired, renovated in 2000 and in 2007 new church windows were installed in the "original replica". The interior of the small church, idyllically situated on the south-western edge of the village and surrounded by trees, is also worth seeing.

The manor was owned by the Barons von Schwartzenfels until the end of the 19th century, and in 1923 a Mr. Hahn is registered as the owner. In 1945 the expropriation took place without compensation.

The agricultural area was subject to “social upheavals” during the Soviet occupation zone and the GDR, in particular collectivization . The farmers then had to find new ways of cultivating the land after reunification .

Today (2012) around 50 people live in Rodias.
