from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Aremberg nature reserve includes the Aremberg , the highest peak in the Ahr Mountains . It is located in the Aremberg district in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate and was designated by ordinance of the Koblenz district government of October 24, 1977.

The protection purpose is, as it says in the regulation, “the preservation of the tertiary volcanic cone with its castle ruins for historical and geological reasons; at the same time as a location for rare plants and as a habitat for threatened and rare animal species for scientific reasons ”. In a further ordinance of December 18, 1978, the protected area was expanded from its original size of 50 hectares to 130 hectares.
