The Swistbach source area nature reserve is located in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The approximately 87 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1986 , extends northeast of the local community of Kalenborn along the Swistbach , directly on the B 257 that passes on the eastern edge . The state road L 78 runs not far to the south and the state border with North Rhine-Westphalia runs not far to the northwest .

The protection purpose is the preservation and development of the source area of the Swistbach and the adjacent wet meadows as a location for rare wild plants and plant communities that are threatened in their existence and as a habitat for rare animal species that are threatened in their existence.
