from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve of the mouth of the Ahr at the confluence of the Ahr into the Rhine between Bonn and Koblenz is the only remaining natural or renatured mouth of a tributary into the Rhine. It is located in the extreme northeast of the urban area of Sinzig , near the border with the city of Remagen .

According to § 3 of the current ordinance of June 23, 1981, the protection purpose for the nature reserve is "the preservation of the natural estuary area with its water, sand and mud surfaces as well as a habitat for wild plants that are rarely threatened and animals, especially bird species for scientific reasons. ”With the protection, the area, the appearance of which is constantly changing due to natural river dynamics, should be secured in the long term. The prerequisites for the survival of the pioneer biocenoses typical of river floodplains should be created through free meandering, uninfluenced by humans, the constant stacking, depositing and repositioning of silt, sand, gravel and gravel .
