Ahrschleife near Altenahr
The Ahrschleife near Altenahr is a 205 hectare nature reserve on the Ahr that is located in the Langfigtal south of Altenahr in the Ahrweiler district.
description
The designation as a nature reserve took place on October 14, 1983 by the Koblenz district government . The protection purpose is the preservation of the river landscape with its rock formations for scientific and natural historical reasons, as a habitat for rare birds and wild plants that are threatened in their existence, as well as because of their special scenic beauty and uniqueness. On April 1, 1980, the area had already been temporarily secured by ordinance; on March 9, 1982, this ordinance was amended before the area became a definitive nature reserve the following year.
The Ahrschleife in the Langfigtal is the largest meander loop in the river. From Altenahr, the AhrSteig leads along the three-kilometer loop of the river. Textbook-like in the course of the water, the difference between rebound and sliding slope can be recognized. There is a geological hiking trail at the Ahrschleife, as the surface-forming processes from 400 million years of geological history can be read from the steeply towering slate sections of the Rhenish Slate Mountains .
In the Langfigtal there are fallow vineyards with overgrown slopes. Their dry stone walls provide a habitat for heat-loving animals and plants.
