The church

The Protestant village church Möhrenbach is in Möhrenbach , a district of the city of Ilmenau in the Ilm district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish of Gehren in the parish of Arnstadt-Ilmenau of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

In 1811 the church burned down to the ground, the school and 48 houses also burned down. The still standing church was built from 1814 to 1818. The oldest church was a chapel , which was first mentioned in 1588. The predecessor of the current church was built between 1657 and 1659.

To the current church

It is a late baroque church with an octagonal tower with a curved dome and a timber frame covered with slate . The interior is simple and bright. The room has two galleries . The semicircular pulpit was built by the sculptor Elle from Stadtilm . Meinhard donated the altar .

The organ from 1818 needs to be repaired.
