The village church of Mertendorf is in the municipality of Mertendorf in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Dorndorf-Eckolstädt in Kirchenkreis Eisenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The village church is located in the middle of the Rundlingdorf .

history

A date for the first mention of the church in the middle of the Slavic Rundling village is not known. The hall church with the indented five-sided choir polygon was probably built in the 17th century. Traces of a Romanesque predecessor chapel are present in the foundation masonry.

inner space

The room is equipped with a three-sided gallery and a pulpit altar donated around 1700 . After the Second World War , the church was renovated. The nave was painted and given a picture. The renovation in 1995 was based on the original model. The organ is located under the western gallery. It was built in 1865 by Wilhelm Heerwagen from Klosterhäseler and originally stood in the Würchhausen manor chapel near Camburg . It was transferred to Mertendorf in 1959.
