The village church

The Protestant village church Merzdorf is a late Gothic stone church in Merzdorf , a district of the town of Baruth / Mark in the district of Teltow-Fläming in Brandenburg , Germany.

history

The construction dates from the 15th century. Little has been known about the further history of the sacred building . A baroque renovation took place in the 17th century. It was probably around this time that the parish erected a wooden bell tower. According to a chronicle, a tower was in need of repair in 1784. In 1930 the parish erected the stone west tower .

architecture

The hall church was built from field stones . They are relatively evenly carved, but only regularly layered on the north and south sides of the nave. This regularity is missing on the eastern gable. The stones there are uncut and loosely connected with mortar. A pointed arch-shaped window is set in the east wall, which replaces an originally existing group of three windows . The formerly Gothic openings were expanded in the shape of a basket arch in the 17th century. On the south side of the nave there are two pointed arched step portals.

Furnishing

The interior of the nave is clad with a flat beamed ceiling that dates back to 1690. The horseshoe gallery dates from the same year . The pulpit altar dates from the end of the 17th century. It is decorated with acanthus leaves and painted with a cross. On the altar there is a late Gothic crucifixion group, the origin of which, according to a church leader, is "unclear". The rest of the church furnishings are in rural baroque style. A sacrament niche is set into the east wall. The bell in the tower was cast in 1479. There is also a mechanical tower clock.
