St. Marien in Solkwitz

The Protestant village church of St. Marien is in the municipality of Solkwitz in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

history

In 1412 a Marienkapelle was first mentioned in a document. Today it stands in the village as a church with a rectangular structure and western roof turret. It has a three-sided polygonal finish.

The year 1740 is carved over the door. The weather vane and the pulpit also bear this year. It could be the year from when the chapel was transformed into a church. Everyone agrees that the church is older and could have been from the Gothic era.

There is an all-round gallery in the nave . The small pulpit altar from the Baroque period is included in this. An astonishingly lively Baroque framework has been built around the place where the preacher stands, which unfortunately loses a lot due to the somewhat monotonous white painting.
