The village church Solpke is the Protestant church of the village Solpke in Saxony-Anhalt .

Architecture and history

The late Romanesque building made of field stones with its rectangular recessed choir dates from the middle of the 13th century. The roof turret on the west side is designed as a half-timbered structure and was built in 1773. The arched windows that can still be seen date from the original period. The window frame of the east window is remarkable. It could be dendrochronologically dated to the time around 1250. According to this method, the roof structure was built in 1442. The church building was last repaired in the 1980s.

Originally the church belonged to the diocese of Verden and was the southernmost house of worship there. Today it belongs to the parish of Salzwedel of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Interior

The ceiling of the church interior consists of a flat wooden beam ceiling. Of the furnishings, the pulpit altar from the 18th century with a polygonal pulpit is worth mentioning. On the parapets there is a carved figure of St. Thomas , which probably belonged initially to a late Gothic carving retable . There is also a painted head of Christ that originally belonged to the door of a device niche .

Mention is also one of the Middle Ages derived offertory and one baptism dating back to 1752. The church also has a certificate from the early 16th century bronze bell.
