Dorfschmiede Görzig
The village smithy in Görzig , a district of the Saxon town of Großenhain , is located in the north of the district of Meißen .
It was restored in 2014 and 2015 and returned to working order. All equipment and machines are in their original condition and are ready for use. The history of the village smithy has been almost completely processed on the basis of the documents and records that have been preserved.
history
For a long time the blacksmiths were engaged in shoeing and building and repairing farm implements and wagons for the local farmers. They also forged weapons, which at that time were very popular in uncertain times. In the relevant documents they are also referred to as “Huff und Waffen Schmiedt”.
A first written mention can be found in the church book of Görzig in 1740. There the “Huff and weapons smith Gottfried Saydentörfler” is named, to whom a “little son named Hannes, Christian” was born. “Gottfried Saydentörfler, a Huff and weapons smith in the village of Görtzig” was named in 1749 in a register of the Zabeltitz manor. “Their Handt Werks Leuthe, Brandt Wein Brenner and Hauß comrades, which are partly available in the village of Görtzig …… ..” Master Gottfried Saydentörfler died in 1762 at the age of 62. After that, the village forge Görzig was owned by the Taupitz family for about 90 years. The Taupitz family formed a blacksmith dynasty in the “Großenhainer Land”. In 1807, master blacksmith Johann, Carl, Friedrich Taupitz is based in Walda. The master blacksmith Herrmann Taupitz is mentioned in the address book of the village of Zabeltitz in 1888. Descendants of the Taupitz blacksmiths still live in Walda today, have a metal construction company in Helmsdorf near Pirna and operate the “Taupitz Laser and Forming Technology” in the Zschischen industrial park in Großenhain. The Taupitz family has left their mark on Görzig. The church book of Görzig mentions the name of the Taupitz forge in a variety of ways:
- 1768 Master Johann, Christian Taupitz is married to his wife Maria, Elisabeth 1771 Master Johann, Christian Taupitz “A blacksmith in Görtzig” a child is born.
- 1817 Master Johann, Gottfried Taupitz “Huff und Waffenschmiedt” dies in the 63rd year.
- 1821 Johanna, Christiane, Rosine Taupitz is born as the daughter of master blacksmith Johann, Friedrich, August Taupitz in Görzig.
In 1833 Johann, Christian, Traugott Taupitz “Huff und Waffenschmiedt and Brandt Wein Brenner resident in Görtzig” was named in a directory of the craftsmen in the village of Görzig belonging to the Zabeltitz manor .
1848 Johann, Gottfried Miersch bought the village smithy from his father-in-law Johann, Christian, Traugott Taupitz for 2000 thalers. Johann, Gottfried Miersch was a blacksmith at “1. Squadron of the Royal Saxon Guard Rider Regiment ”and has since been named as a“ certified veterinarian ”in the documents. In 1887 master blacksmith Camillo Miersch bought the village forge from his father Johann, Gottfried Miersch. 1895 was the bankruptcy and foreclosure auction of Camillo Miersch. Business owner Carl, Traugott Wendt from Wülknitz bought the property with the village blacksmith and 3.5 hectares of land for 5700 thalers .
The forge was rebuilt in 1903 and got a new roof structure. Master blacksmith Johann Carl Oswald Menzel died in 1920 at the age of 56 and left behind 4 children (Arno, Arthur, Waldemar and Frieda). In 1923 master blacksmith Arno Oswald Berthold Reinhold Menzel (oldest son of Oswald Menzel) took over the forge with an inheritance contract. After the electrification of the village, the forge was equipped with electricity and a transmission for the drilling machine and bench grinder in 1925 . In 1967, master blacksmith Arno Menzel died at the age of 71. With progressive mechanization and the formation of the agricultural production cooperative , the actual basis of a traditional village blacksmith, such as horseshoeing and wagon construction, no longer existed. Son-in-law Gotthard Dittrich worked as a blacksmith in the Großenhain steam hammer works and only occasionally used the blacksmith's shop to shoe a few hobby horses. The forge was used as a hobby workshop and storage room.
today
The village smithy was dilapidated in 2014 and threatened to collapse. Demolition or restoration were up for discussion. Werner Dittrich (grandson of Arno Menzel and son of Gotthard and Renate Dittrich) decided to renovate. The forge was rebuilt to the state of 1925 and is fully functional again. Today it is used for hobby forging and as a space for celebrations.
