Görzig is a district of the Saxon town of Großenhain in the north of the district of Meißen .

geography

Görzig is about 12 kilometers away from Großenhain in the Röderauwald Zabeltitz in the Großenhainer care . The surrounding area of Görzig is characterized by the wetland landscape of the Röderaue. Originally a swampy landscape, the area is now dominated by extensive hardwood forests (alder, elm, oak, beech). Around 1900 the place was described as a street village with a corridor.

history

Görzig was originally a row village with typical agriculture. 1401 the place is mentioned for the first time as "Gorczk" and belonged to the bishopric Naumburg an der Saale. The place name was subjected to repeated changes so Görzig was in 1406 in Gorcygc called, 1467 Gortzke , 1495 Gorcz , 1549 Gortzigk , 1552 Goertzick , 1555 Gurzigk and Görzig in 1555. In the year 1406 belonged to Görzig Großenhainer care. In 1432 the place came into the possession of the Pflugk family. A Vorwerk is mentioned in 1490. In 1552 the manor Zabeltitz exercised the manorial rule before the village became an official village in 1590. In 1590 Görzig was administered from the Grossenhain Office and from 1662 from the Zabeltitz Office. During the Thirty Years' War with plague, looting and pillage, the last inhabitants left the village in 1638, but in 1648 it was inhabited again. From 1748 the village came again to the office of Großenhain and from 1856 it was administered by the court office of Großenhain. From 1875 the place came to the administrative authority of Großenhain.

In 1925, 242 residents of Görzig were Evangelical Lutheran and 3 residents were Catholic . Saxons came after the Second World War in the Soviet zone of occupation and later the GDR . After the territorial reform in 1952 , Görzig was initially assigned to the Riesa district in the Dresden district on July 25, 1952 . From December 4, 1952 the place came to the district of Großenhain . After the German reunification , Görzig came to the re-established Free State of Saxony. In 1994 the place was incorporated into the newly founded rural community Zabeltitz together with Zabeltitz-Treugeböhla, Nasseböhla, Skäßchen and Strauch. The following regional reforms in Saxony assigned Görzig to the Riesa-Großenhain district in 1994 and to the Meißen district in 2008. Today Görzig is characterized by two and three-sided courtyards and a new building area.

Buildings

Görzig Church

The church is the oldest building in town and was probably built in 1554; the date 1564 is on the baptismal font. But it had a previous building, which was already mentioned as a parish church around 1500 and at that time belonged to the archdeaconate Propstei Großenhain. With the exception of the tower, the old church was torn down to the foundation walls in 1837 and was given its present-day appearance through extensive new construction. The altar was taken from the Zabeltitz church and inserted into the altar wall. In 1847 the church received a new organ from the Nagel organ workshop in Grossenhain. Before and after the fall of the Wall, the church was thoroughly renovated with the help of the residents and the organ was made operable again so that it could be inaugurated again in 1992. Church services take place irregularly.

Watermill

There are remains of an old water mill with the mill moat.
