Dorian Rudnytsky

Dorian Rudnytsky (* 1944 in New York City ) is an American cellist and composer .

His parents were from Ukraine . His father was the composer and conductor Antin Rudnytsky , his mother the soprano Maria Sokil . He studied at the Juillard College of Music in New York City and graduated with Maurice Eisenberg, friend and student of Pablo Casals .

During the late 1960s and 1970s he performed solo concerts as a classical cellist on many stages in the USA, and during this time he founded the New York Rock & Roll Ensemble with Michael Kamen and Marty Fultermann (now Mark Snow ) . All three studied together at the Juilliard University of Music. The band had great success with their crossover sound between classical and rock music and released six LPs on well-known record labels such as Atlantic Records .

The ensemble toured nationally and internationally, performed solo concerts at numerous festivals and in major concert halls in the USA, but also played as a guest of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under Leonard Bernstein at Carnegie Hall in New York City, with the great symphony orchestras from Cleveland and Detroit, appeared on all major television shows and also starred in the film Zachariah .

In the following years Rudnytsky lived in Los Angeles and worked as a cellist and bassist for film and television. Since 1995 he lives in Siegen and on the Costa Blanca in Spain. He mainly composes for theater productions, but also works as a solo cellist.

On April 19, 2000, his concert for solo cello, rock band and symphony orchestra, Costa Blanca Suite , premiered on the Costa Blanca. In Germany, the concert consisting of the three movements Portrait of Altea , Penon d'Ifach and Moros y Christianos was performed in spring 2005 with the Philharmonie Südwestfalen.
