The Thorny eyelash Bock ( Pogonocherus hispidus ) or Rough eyelash Bock is a beetle from the family of longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae).

features

The beetle has three strong longitudinal ribs on each wing cover, on the back half of the longitudinal rib near the wing cover seam there are small hairbrushes, hence the name batting. In P. hispidus there are two dark tufts of hair. Another tuft of hair sits on each side on the strongly developed basal humps of the elytra. The pronotum also has two humps at the top, which are well-developed and shiny. In addition, there is a thorn that is slightly bent back on each side of the pronotum. Overall, the beetle looks gnarled.

The thorny batting is four to six millimeters long. The antennae are light brown at the base and then darken so that they appear curled. Lighter and darker areas alternate on the legs as well. This helps to camouflage the mostly immobile animal. There is a wide, light-colored transverse band on the front of the wing covers. The wing covers are drawn out to a point on the outside at the back, to which the name Dorniger Wimperbock can be traced back.

The double-thorned batting ( Pogonocherus hispidulus ) is very similar . With him, however, not only the outer angle, but also the inner angle of the wing covers at the wing cover seam is drawn out into a pointed tooth.

Occurrence

The beetle is found in Central and Southern Europe from the plains to subalpine locations, North Africa and the Caucasus. The larvae live in a wide range of deciduous trees and bushes and were even bred in the stem pulp of Jerusalem artichoke ( Helianthus tuberosus ). The beetle can be found on dry twigs and branches from May to October.
