Dorothea von Stetten Art Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dorothea von Stetten Art Prize is an art prize that has been awarded every two years since 1984 and is expressly understood as a sponsorship prize for young up-and-coming artists .

conditions

The supported artists are said to have not yet reached the age of 36, but their work already shows interesting prospects and development opportunities. It is not possible to apply for this award. The candidates for the Dorothea von Stetten Art Prize are proposed by five independent art experts. A jury then selects the winner of the art prize from among the five proposed artists. This jury consists of five independent art experts, none of whom are allowed to belong to the proposing committee. In line with its conception, the prize, endowed with € 10,000, is aimed at a younger generation of artists who are not yet internationally known.

The awarding of the award is linked to a group exhibition in the Kunstmuseum Bonn , where the four other nominated artists are exhibited in addition to the actual award winner.

History and future

The prize is provided with funds from the Dorothea von Stetten Foundation . The founder herself was a member of the foundation's board of trustees throughout her life. She died on August 7, 2011 in Bonn . For the future, the board of trustees is affiliated to the city of Bonn.

Among the previous winners, several artists such as Thomas Florschuetz or Gregor Schneider gained increasing importance in the international art scene in the years that followed.
