Katinka Bock
Katinka Bock (* 1976 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German sculptor and installation artist . She lives and works in Berlin and Paris .
life and work
Katinka Bock studied sculpture at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee and became a master student of Inge Mahn . She has received numerous awards for her work, including the 2002 Marion Ermer Prize . She studied at the École nationale des beaux-arts de Lyon until 2005.
Katinka Bock's work includes sculptures, films, photographs and, above all, installations. Thematically, she is dedicated to structural investigations of social conditions and culturally defined spaces. She works with slightly modified found objects and natural materials, wood, leather, stone, fabric, plaster, graphite and clay.
“Trostpfützen” is a work from 2010. 46 clay tiles with a recess in the middle lie in a square shape on the floor. In the troughs of the tiles there is water, which, depending on the depth of the basin, evaporates at different speeds. Varying water levels and superimposed limescale on the clay forms are the result. The daylight ceiling of the exhibition room is reflected in the puddles. The “puddles of consolation” were created by Katinka Bock for the special exhibition “New Alchemy. Contemporary Art according to Beuys ”of the LWL Museum for Art and Culture .
In the laudation for the Dorothea von Stetten Art Prize received in 2012 , it says:
“The artist convinces with the use of simple, natural materials, with which she builds subtle and sensually perceptible tensions or creates sculptural balances in a very understandable and impressive way. In doing so, she succeeds in working the artistic field equally impressively using a wide variety of media such as sculpture, film, works on paper, installations, and even painting. "
