Life

Inge Mahn studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where she was a master student of Joseph Beuys . Since the early 1970s she has exhibited her work in numerous locations around the world, in 1972 at documenta 5 in Kassel in the Individual Mythologies department . After visiting professorships in Düsseldorf and at the Braunschweig University of Fine Arts , she was professor of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart from 1987 to 1993 and at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art in Berlin from 1993 until she retired in 2009 .

Inge Mahn's main areas of work are the visual examination of everyday objects and changing interventions in architecture. “The objects are alienated and isolated and thus made accessible to empathy and reflection. She changes architectural situations by multiplying, expanding or dividing existing elements. In both cases it is an extension of reality for the purpose of opening one's eyes. ”(Gesa Bartholmeyczik, Critical Lexicon of Contemporary Art ).

As a teacher at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art, Inge Mahn initiated numerous joint projects with students.
