From the mid-1990s, Kahr's works were presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions on the international art scene, e. B. in the Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst (SMAK) in Gent (2001), in the Drawing Center in New York City (1997), in the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh (1997), at the first Berlin Biennale (1998), from the Society for Current Art in Bremen (1998) and from the PS1 Contemporary Art Center in New York City (1997 and 1999).

(1996/1997), from the Institut français Berlin for a stay in Paris (1997) and from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media , Christina Weiss , for a stay at the Deutsche Akademie Rome Villa Massimo (2005).
Kahrs deals with painting, graphics, video art as well as sound and sculptural installations. His themes reflect the banal and brutal imagery of modern media. In his large-format oil paintings and pastel drawings, which are reminiscent of Francis Bacon , Sigmar Polke and Gerhard Richter in their figurative, expressive structure , Kahrs developed an original style that ironically questions social conventions and viewing habits. Since 2003 Kahrs has been represented by the Zeno X Gallery in Antwerp .
Johannes Kahrs lives and works in Berlin.
