Kahrs deals with painting, graphics, video art as well as sound and sculptural installations. His themes reflect the banal and brutal imagery of modern media. In his large-format oil paintings and pastel drawings, which are reminiscent of Francis Bacon , Sigmar Polke and Gerhard Richter in their figurative, expressive structure , Kahrs developed an original style that ironically questions social conventions and viewing habits. Since 2003 Kahrs has been represented by the Zeno X Gallery in Antwerp .

Johannes Kahrs lives and works in Berlin.
