Live and act

Dorothea Ackermann was the daughter of Konrad Ernst Ackermann and Sophie Charlotte Ackermann . She had a sister, Charlotte Ackermann , and a stepbrother named Friedrich Ludwig Schröder . Like her parents and siblings, she took up the profession of actress. She performed in Gdansk as a child and celebrated her greatest successes together with her sister, who died early, under the guidance of her stepbrother in Hamburg. She had her most active time from 1769 to 1778. In addition to her work as an actress, Ackermann sang and danced, who was considered extremely hard-working and disciplined. In particular, the role of Ophelia from Hamlet was particularly appreciated. She also played the title role of Stella . Dorothea Ackermann described her stepbrother as "Germany's first actress".

In 1778 Dorothea Ackermann married Johann Christoph Unzer , who worked as a doctor and poet in Altona . Then she stopped performing. Because she was married to a renowned doctor and was a former eminent actress, she was able to participate in upper-class urban life. The marriage with Johann Christoph Unzer ended in 1796 with an ugly divorce process. Her stepbrother acquired and destroyed all the trial files that Unzer had made. From 1797 until her death, Dorothea Ackermann, who was also known as "Doktorin Unzer", lived with her stepbrother, whose country house was in Rellingen .
