Dorothy Marie "Dottie" Metcalf-Lindenburger (born May 2, 1975 in Colorado Springs , State of Colorado , USA ) is a former American astronaut . She was selected as a teacher within the Educator Astronaut Project .

Life

Metcalf-Lindenburger received a bachelor's degree in geology from Whitman College in Washington in 1997 . At the time of selection, she was a geography, astronomy and cross-country skiing teacher at Hudson's Bay High School in Vancouver , Washington .

Astronaut activity

STS-131

On December 5, 2008, Metcalf-Lindenburger was named as the mission specialist for the STS-131 mission . It took off on April 5, 2010 and landed on April 20, 2010.

Other NASA activities

In June 2012, she headed the NASA NEEMO 16 mission (“NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations”) in the “ Aquarius ” habitat of the US weather and oceanography agency , which is to explore the possibility of a space mission to an asteroid.

Private

Metcalf-Lindenburger is married and the couple has one child. In her spare time she has already run several marathons. She was also a singer in the astronaut rock band Max Q .
