The Doubtful River is a 17 km long river in the Hurunui District , in the north of the Canterbury region on the South Island of New Zealand .

geography

The headwaters of the Doubtful River are located around 17 km southwest of the Lewis Pass and around 500 m south, below the summit of the 1780  m high Mount Boscawen , on the west side of which there is also the headwaters of the Robinson River going west . From its source, the Doubtful River initially flows 5.5 km south and then swings east through a long valley towards the Boyle River , into which the Doubtful River finally flows about 5 km southwest of the small settlement Boyle Village .

Doubtful Valley Track

Not far from the confluence of the Doubtful River with the Boyle River , the three-and-a-half-hour Doubtful Valley Track branches off from the Tui Track to the west into the long valley of the river. The valley can be crossed to Doubtless Hut via the Doubtful Hut . From there, another path branches off to the west over the Amuri Pass .
