Douglas Pipes
Douglas S. Pipes (born August 12, 1962 in Los Angeles ) is an American composer who became internationally known for his compositions for films such as Monster House , Trick 'r Treat - The Night of Terror or Barbie - Mariposa and the Fairy Princess .
life and career
Douglas Pipes began his career as a film music composer in the late 1980s with his composition for the Michael S. O'Rourke horror film Moonstalker . When he met director Gil Kenan at UCLA in California in 2004 , Pipes offered to compose the music for his short film The Lark . This collaboration finally led to the joint cinema project Monster House in 2006 . The film, which was nominated for an Oscar, among others, has won numerous international awards. The music by Pipes won the 2007 Film and Television Music Award in the Top Box Office Films category and was also nominated for the World Soundtrack Award in the Discovery of the Year category and a Saturn Award nomination in the Best Music category at the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films Festival in the USA. In the years that followed, Pipes wrote the music for films such as the horror comedy Trick 'r Treat - The Night of Terror by director Michael Dougherty, the romantic drama Waking by director Ben Shelton, the animated film Barbie - Mariposa and the Fairy Princess or the thriller Little Paradise .
In 2014 Pipes, commissioned by the Dallas Chamber Symphony and the Dallas Videofest, composed an original score for Alfred Hitchcock's silent film The Tenant . The premiere took place on October 8, 2014.
In addition to his involvement in the film industry, Douglas Pipes also worked with the rock band The Airborne Toxic Event for their symphony concerts in the USA, he wrote arrangements and orchestrations. Today Pipes lives and works in Los Angeles , California.
