The Downs Cone is one of several small cone mountains along the southwest flank of Toney Mountain in Marie Byrd Land in western Antarctica . It rises 5 km west-southwest of Boeger Peak .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it based on its own surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1959 to 1966. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1976 after Bill S. Downs, who was from 1969 to 1970 and from 1970 to 1971 Air traffic control at Williams Field ( McMurdo Sound ) and had previously belonged to the winter occupation of Little America V in 1958.
